Dining and Drinks
The Village Inn and The Highland Dell are two local historic hotels, with fine restaurants and very comfortable bars. They overlook the beautiful Russian River and are just a block or so away.
• The historic Pink Elephant Bar is a five minute walk.
• Café Les Jumelles, is a diner with good homemade food, and also has a bar. It is a six minute walk away at the other end of the bridge.
• At the Monte Rio Public Beach you find a summer snack bar with classic beach food.

Food and Groceries
• Bartlett’s Market, the biggest store in town, is a five minute walk, across the street from the Pink Elephant bar.
• Open 7 days week, 365 days a year, Fern’s Market and Deli is just a seven minute walk away, on the other side of the Russian River.
• Go one block further east on River Road, you’ll find One Stop Market & Deli.
Sophie’s Cellars, a world-class wine and cheese shop that we fully recommend, is on River Road, just east of Fern’s and the One Stop Market, on the left.

Recreation/Entertainment
• Monte Rio Public Tennis Courts and the Monte Rio Amphitheatre (venue for live music and other entertainment events) are a 5 minute walk on Main & Fir.
• The Bohemian Grove is also just a five minute walk through the woods.
• Across the river, just a six-minute walk, are the Rio Theater, for 1st run movies, a coffee shop, and small flea market on weekends).
The Pegasus Theater for great, live, local theate, is across from the Rio.
• At the Monte Rio Public Beach you can rent canoes and kayaks.
• The Monte Rio Community Center, with its meeting rooms, large kitchen, ball rooms and outdoor entertaining and barbeque area, is suitable for weddings, family reunions and other large events.

A Short Ride Away

• Monte Rio- Northwood Golf Course (9 holes) is a five-minute drive east on River Road. There is a Pro Shop, Bar, Restaurant, Coffee Shop, Barber, and Post Office.
• Duncans Mills- A six-minute drive west on either River or Moscow Road takes you to Casini’s Campground, a Post Office a Candy Store, and a Bakery/Coffee Shop, Pizza shop. On the other side of the highway, for great food, is Cape Fear Restaurant. There are also Art Galleries and other shops.
• Guerneville- a ten-minute drive east on River Road brings you to the biggest town on the River. Here you’ll find everything (Safeway, car repair, shops, restaurants, bars, lodging, miniature golf, bike rentals, sporting goods, coffee shops, banks, hardware, Five & Dime, spas, pharmacy, barber shop, hair salon, fueling station, Food for Humans Health Food (near Safeway) and tattoos and piercings.)
Armstrong Woods State Park,(on Armstrong Woods Road in Guerneville, contains some of the tallest trees in the world.
Korbel Champagne Cellars, with wine and champagne tours, gift shop and great deli,), is an 11 minute drive east on River Road, just past Guerneville.
• Occidental- Shops, restaurants, markets, lodging and bakery are a twelve-minute drive south, up the hill, on Bohemian Hwy.
• Cazadero- A lovely eighteen-minute drive, west on River Road, then a right on Cazadero Road , brings you to wide spot in the road, with a small bakery/coffee shop, and country store. If you keep driving through Cazadero, the small, curving road will eventually lead you out to the Pacific Ocean, near Fort Ross. This is a lovely, adventurous drive, but should only be done in good weather.
• Jenner- A twenty-minute drive west on River Road, then right onto Highway 1, Jenner is where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean. Wildlife, restaurants, coffee shop, souvenir shop, lodging, gas.
• Forestville- a twenty-five-minute drive east on River Road, then right onto Mirabel Road takes you to Forestville. This village has a bank, deli, stores, restaurants, laundry and pharmacy, gas station, and Speers Market, a small full service grocery store
• Sebastopol- A charming, full service town, is a tourist destination on it’s own. It is a thirty-five- minute drive to Whole Foods, Safeway, Lucky’s, banks, gas, fast food, shops, spas, galleries and a hospital.
• Healdsburg- Wineries, shops, spas, and restaurants await you after a forty-minute drive through wine country. Consult a local map for various scenic routes to Healdsburg.
• Santa Rosa- The Wells Fargo Center For The Arts provides world class entertainment and is a forty-minute drive east on River Road at Highway 101. The City of Santa Rosa is just south of River Road, on Highway 101. Santa Rosa is a full service city, the county seat, and the closest place to get a marriage license!
• Bodega Bay- A lovely little coastal town, known for Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”, it has fresh seafood, shops, great restaurants, lodging, coffee shops, camping, swimming, surfing, horseback riding, hiking, etc. It is a thirty-minute drive west on River Road, then left on Highway 1.
• Many wineries and other treasures are within a thirty-minute drive of Monte Rio Cottages.
